Why is CAPE different?
We are different to other management development providers. We've coached people managers; we've interviewed many people managers in the development of our programme and importantly we were people managers too. And not the 'slip into the role like a comfortable pair of shoes' type, the 'who am I kidding, I'm not sure what I'm doing ' type! We learnt the hard way and we bring all of this to CAPE. For us, CAPE is the management development programme that we wished was available for us.
We want to help people gain the confidence to feel like a superhero manager early on in their management role. The cape of a superhero becomes a metaphor for choosing your own authentic management approach, having the confidence to wear it and having a toolkit and learning experiences that helps you believe in your own capability as a manager.
We've learned how to listen and understand the customers' needs and problems, and how to deal with them to deliver the great service. Hopefully soon we will be recognised as a company with good products, but also with a great customer service and technical support.”
CAPE provides an external peer to peer network to learn and share experiences, underpinned by formal coach led sessions, helping our leaders to be brilliant coaches themselves. Our team are already seeing the benefits of this programme, as are our teams.”
The course helps you take the time to reflect on yourself as a people manager, take a step back and with that also gain more confidence. The course also provides tools such as a very useful coaching framework that we also put in to practice in the training.”

What really helps managers thrive?
One of the most important areas we discussed with the interviewees was, given all of the challenges that managing people brings, what do they believe had the most impact in helping them build their capability and self-belief.
A few examples include:
32% said coaching & mentoring
19% said on the job learning/experience/shadowing
13% said role models in the business
This impacted our desire to develop brilliant people managers and where CAPE became a reality. For a deeper insight into the results of our findings, download our research report.
One day, you're not managing people, and then the next day, they're coming to you for answers. They're coming to you for guidance, and you don't always have those answers. But as soon as you add manager to your title, it's almost like people think you've become this superhuman power, like a superhero that you can know the answer to everything and do everything.
